Prayer and liturgy are central to St Hugh’s understanding of itself as a Catholic school, and this is reflected in the daily opportunities and worship planned, following a structure with reference to the Church’s seasons, Come and See topics, Feast days and significant dates.
At St. Hugh’s, we are fortunate to be served by two parishes: St. Peter and Paul’s and St. Hugh’s. Both Canon Geoffrey and Canon Eddy celebrate Mass during significant occasions and feast days within the liturgical calendar.
On most Fridays, a class attends morning Mass at St. Hugh’s. This is a meaningful experience for the children, and parishioners have expressed how much they appreciate seeing the children actively participate in the Liturgy of the Word.
Each month, we are blessed to have Deacon Kevin visit our school. This provides every key stage with the opportunity to spend time in meditation and prayer with Jesus. This sacred time allows the children to converse with Jesus and deepen their relationship with Him.
The school has a designated chapel; this sacred space allows children to access some time with God at any point during the day.
Whole school collective worship is held each week; led by the prayer leaders and supported by RE Lead.
KS1 / KS2 Prayer club allows children to explore meditation through Lectio and Viso Divina
Each class has a spontaneous prayer box which children can take – (Containing an olive wood cross, LED candle, Bible story books and writing materials) to record their prayers
Prayer wall- Children can write their prayers and share them in the central prayer area of the school – this is located next to the school chapel.
Open prayer opportunities – Mrs Pallister the RE Lead provides prayer opportunities based on the virtue to live by focus or the season. These can be written or craft prayer opportunities.
